Hāpai Access Card
At West Coast Treetop Walk & Zipline, we are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all our visitors. We are proud to be fully certified for the Hāpai Access Card and strive to accommodate the needs of everyone, including those with disabilities or hidden conditions. Below is an overview of our accessibility features and services.
Standing and Queuing
We understand that standing in line can be challenging for some visitors. To assist, we offer seating in our café or waiting area near our customer service desk. Our staff are trained to prioritise prompt service for those who need it, including bringing clients to the front of the queue when necessary.
Level Access
We have a wheelchair ramp to allow access to either the staff car or client golf cart to assist those that need vehicle assistance with access to the walkway structure. The access track from our base building to the structure is 300m long and includes gaining 20m elevation.
Distances
We have six accessible parking spaces located 100m from our main building, making it easier for those with mobility challenges to access our services. These spaces are closer than our main car park.
Urgent Toilet Access
Our building is equipped with men’s, women’s, and accessible/family toilet facilities. Please note that there are no toilet facilities along the walkway, as it is located within a conservation estate.
Disability Assist Dogs
We comply with New Zealand law regarding Disability Assist dogs. All registered Disability Assist dogs are permitted entry to the walkway and facilites. Proof of registration can be provided through a valid Hāpai Access Card or official documentation, and the dog must be wearing its relevant service jacket (coat/vest/harness).
Essential Companions
We recognise the importance of Essential Companions for disabled individuals. An Essential Companion is someone who provides necessary support to ensure a disabled person can access our services. Essential Companions are admitted free of charge.
Difficulty Accessing Visual Information
For visitors who may have difficulty accessing visual information, our staff are available to provide briefings about our products and services. We also offer written materials and can assist with navigating our base building as needed.
Difficulty Accessing Audible Information
All pricing and product information is available in written format at our customer service counter. Additionally, our site map includes written details to help visitors enjoy a self-guided tour of our facility.
Hidden Disabilities
We are committed to accommodating the needs of all clients, including those with hidden disabilities. Our staff are trained to be understanding and supportive, and we encourage visitors to let us know how we can assist them during their visit.
About the Hāpai Access Card
The Hāpai Access Card aligns with the social model for disability and the United Nations’ definition of disability. Since its introduction in 2020 in Aotearoa New Zealand (and in the UK since 2013), the Access Card has helped over 200,000 disabled people gain better access to participating businesses. At West Coast Treetop Walk & Zipline, we are proud to support this initiative and ensure our services are accessible to all.
